2024 50th Anniversary

"Ever wonder why your covered hoppers run around your railroad with no place to go? Well, we've changed that! This Bulk Unloader with accompanying Silos (sold separately) is the answer. This system can be used in conjunction with an on-site industry, or if your pike doesn't have the room for a large industrial complex, use this system as an off-site facility. Hoppers are unloaded and material stored in the silos for pick-up by truck and taken to the plant. Many industries used such systems including feed, sand, chemicals etc." -Thomas Yorke

This all new Bulk Unloader kit designed by Thomas Yorke is just one part of the APEX Bulk Unloader and Storage Yard set. Highly detailed resin parts along with styrene and other parts build into a very realistic model that will add great industrial options for loading and unloading your hopper cars. Lends itself to multiple industries with ease. Use with 1 or 2 of our storage silos (sold separately) or any industrial building.

Brick Fire House
Available in HO 1:87 Scale and O/On30 1:48 Scale
Brick Fire House
designed and produced by James and Anna Cleveland
Available in HO 1:87 Scale and O/On30 1:48 Scale

After the original No 1 wooden firehouse burned down, the town of Stinkwater Crik built this brick firehouse to replace it.  Despite the murmurings of suspected arson, the devastating fire was chalked up to the theory that volunteers weren’t motivated to show up in time to extinguish the blaze, so the city also implemented the first paid fire fighter positions in the area. Cheers to progress!

This 2 story structure depicts a brick, single stall firehouse that was both functional and somewhat ornate and right at home anywhere from the 1900’s to present. The tower attached to the firehouse was used to hang the hoses up to dry and the living quarters on the second floor housed the on-duty firefighters.  The slight wave in the bricks belies the rumors that Mickey, the local mason, spends way too much time at the local tavern.  The hose drying tower can be placed on either of the side walls as desired. A small footprint and tons of character make this an ideal addition to any small town or city scene.

HO 1:87 Scale 3 Track Carfloat and Pontoon Float Bridge
HO 1:87 Scale 3 Track Carfloat
designed and produced by James and Anna Cleveland
Frenchman River Model Works

This kit represents a 3 Track Carfloat built in the early 1950's and was used in the everyday transfer of freight cars from shore to shore including many interchange operations between different railroads. It features a welded steel hull and will accommodate 8, 40' rail cars (3 per outer set of rail and 2 on the middle).

Our kit consists of highly detailed resin castings featuring scale weld lines, scuttle hatches, cleat bases and toggle pockets already cast in place along with 3 separate cast resin track bumpers. Highly detailed Britannia metal castings included are cleats and bridge hooks along with rope and chain allow you to build an accurate model of a very recognizable, everyday element of water front operations. Looks great with one of our 92' Diesel Railroad Tugboats or 92' Steam Railroad Tugboats pushing it! The parts in this kit require very little cleanup allowing quick assembly time.

HO 1:87 Scale Pontoon Float Bridge
designed and produced by James & Anna Cleveland

This kit represents a through girder pontoon type float bridge commonly used in many locations around New York Harbor. The land end of the bridge rested on pivoting bridge shoes allowing the water end of the bridge to rise and fall with the tide. The pontoon that the outer end of the bridge floated on could also be raised and lowered using water pumped into or out of it as ballast. This would allow the crew to adjust the bridge to match the floating height of the carfloat. The crew would use the winches to align and draw together the carfloat with the bridge. Once aligned the toggle bars would be extended from the bridge through the toggle pockets on the bow of the carfloat locking them together to facilitate loading or unloading rail cars.

This design uses a gauntlet type track arrangement with the actual switch located on the land before the bridge. The included instructions show how to cut a standard #6 Switch to match up with the bridge rails. Please note that the switch and the rails are not included.

Downtown Barber/Tobacconist Shops

Downtown Barber/Tobacconist Shops
designed and produced by James and Anna Cleveland
Available in HO 1:87 Scale & O/On30 1:48 Scale

There are many small businesses along the Main Street of Stinkwater Crik. Among them you'll find Lasater's Tobacconist and Whipple's Barber Shops. Lasater's Tobacconist Shop is a local landmark supplying tobacco products of every kind. Mr. Lasater, the proprietor, and his family live in the apartment above the store. In the back of the shop is a sampling room where fine tobacco flavors can be explored. Next door you'll find Whipple's Barber Shop which boasts the closest shave and best haircuts in the county. Mr. Whipple is known for his keen sense of humor and sympathetic ear.

Although these are small buildings, they are loaded with character and detail. This set of brick buildings can be built with the barber shop on the left or right of the tobacconist. The tobacconist is a two story building with a wood storefront that boasts ornate glass windows, columns, cornice details and a fire escape. The barber shop is a three sided building meant to share the adjoining wall with the building next door. It is a brick building with a wood store front and glass block details. The skylight on the roof gives an unexpected extra detail. This skylight, along with the large front windows, allows for great interior detailing opportunities. The barber pole can be used as a free standing detail part or simply snip off the base and mount it to the store front. Decals and signs round this set of buildings out nicely.
