Description
HO 1:87 Scale Large Wooden Bulkheads
Used with or without a captain's cabin, these bulkheads were common on barges to contain the load as well as protect the captain's cabin if there was one. Loose loads such as sand, gravel and coal would be piled up on the deck between the end bulkheads and the side rails of the barge deck. These large bulkheads were also used on barges carrying large boulders and rip-rap used to build up seawalls and breakwaters. Barges with these large wooden bulkheads were also used to transport cargo and lighterage from ship to shore and around the harbor.
This set contains 2 cast resin large wooden bulkheads. These boast tons of character on both sides with the side facing the load filled with gouges and dents indicative of years of service.
Note: These have been slightly contoured to fit the camber of the wooden barge deck. These will need to be slightly sanded to make them flat to fit the steel barge deck.
